Reserve Unique Name (RUN) is a web service used for reserving a name for a new company or for changing its existing name. The web service helps you verify whether the name you’ve chosen for your company is unique.

Before the RUN web-form was introduced, all applications concerning company names were to be made in the Form INC-1. The names were to be accompanied with a minimum of 2 Director Identification Number and 1 Digital Signature. Today with the introduction of the RUN web-form, a company name can be reserved easily without the requirement of a digital signature.

Trademark

The proposed name, in any case, should not be identical to any existing company's name, or a registered trademark*, or a trademark already in the process of registration..

Similar Name

Do not add common words like New, Modern, Nav, Shri, Sri, Shree, Sree, Om, Jai, Sai, The, etc. to an existing company name. It will get rejected.

Blacklist

Abbreviations, adjectives and generic words are rejected. So BBC or XYZ would be rejected. The words bank, exchange and stock exchange, unless approved by RBI or SEBI, would also be rejected..

Offensive

Should not be offensive word of any kind or offensive to a section of society.

Emblems & Names

Should not resemble any of the protected government names & emblems ( Emblems & Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act, 1950).

Government

Should not give the impression that it is related or approved by the Central or State Government

VALIDIDY PERIOD

  • The approved name will be reserved for 20 days from the date of approval. The applicant must file the form for incorporation within such period otherwise the name will get expired. If the applicant is unable to file the form within the due date then the new name application is to be filed.

Process

Login to MCA portal

The name application can be filed only by a registered user of MCA. Hence, if one does not have an account then one has to create an account. One has to select the category from “Register user” or “Business user” and fill all other details to create an account.

Documentation

It is not mandatory to attach any document along with the application to reserve company name. But if any more information is to be provided then one can attach it in pdf form.

Filing of web-based application

Start with filing the name application online on the MCA portal through RUN (Reserve Unique Name) service. The following information must be provided for the application to reserve company name. • Whether it is a new request or a resubmission • Type of company such as New company, OPC, Producer company or others from the drop-down list • CIN if there is a change in a company name • Provide two proposed names of the company • Business activity of the company and other information. • Attach document as mentioned above if required .

Payment of government fees

The government fee for the name application of a company is Rs. 1000/-. After submitting an application one has to pay the government fees online through credit/debit card or NEFT. The name application fee is non-refundable. The payment of fees will generate a receipt with SRN to track the application or further processing. If the name is applied along with the incorporation form – SPICE, then the additional fee of name application will not be levied

Approval or resubmission of name

On submission of name application, the MCA will process the application in 2-3 working days. One can check the company name status on the MCA portal from MCA services – Track SRN/Transaction status. If MCA finds the name is available then the ministry will approve the name and send the name approval letter. Otherwise, it will send an application for resubmission. In such a case the application status will be “sent for resubmission” and an email will be sent to the registered email id.

What are the features of RUN(Reserve Unique Name) web service?

It is a simple and easy to use web service for reserving a name for a new company or for change of name for any existing company.

User has to enter the name he wants to reserve, for incorporation of a new company or for changing the name of an existing company. Users are requested to ensure that the proposed name selected does not contain any word which is prohibited under Section 4(2) & (3) of the Companies Act, 2013 read with Rule 8 of the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014. Users are also requested to read and understand Rule 8 of the Companies (Incorporation) Rules, 2014 in respect of any proposed name before applying for the same.

20 days from the date of approval (in case name is being reserved for a new company) or 60 days from the date of approval (in case of change of name of an existing company).

Yes Resubmission is allowed one time however,Resubmission Option for name reservation shall not be available from 1st Feb 2020 onwards.
